Since 1953

Seventy-three years on the same side of the counter.

Select Sewing has been part of Indianapolis since 1953. The brands have changed and our customers' grandchildren now bring in their own projects, but the promise hasn't: honest advice, the right machine, and a team that knows every machine it sells.

Good questions

What Indy sewists ask us most.

The real questions we hear at the counter, answered honestly.

Do you repair sewing machines, and which brands?
Yes. Our factory-trained, certified technicians service machines right here in Indianapolis, never shipped off somewhere else. We fully service Husqvarna VIKING, PFAFF and Baby Lock from any dealer, plus SINGER and Reliable purchased from us, and almost any other machine can come in for our $49 Quick Fix for minor issues. How much does a sewing machine tune-up cost?
A standard tune-up, which covers cleaning, oiling, and a tension and timing check, typically runs in the $75 to $100 range for most home machines. Computerized and embroidery machines can be more because they have more to service. You always get a free estimate before any work begins, so there are no surprises. Call (317) 255-6332 for a quote on your model.
How often should I have my machine serviced?
About once a year for normal home sewing. If you sew several hours a day, or run a quilting or embroidery machine hard, twice a year is smart. For occasional menders, every couple of years is fine. Regular service catches worn parts early and keeps your stitch quality consistent.
Is it worth repairing an old machine, or should I replace it?
Often it is worth it, especially with older all-metal mechanical machines, which are built to last and frequently outsew newer budget models. A useful rule of thumb: if the repair would cost more than about half the price of a comparable new machine, replacement is worth considering. We will give you an honest assessment either way, even when that means telling you not to spend the money.
What should I bring to a repair or service appointment?
Bring the machine along with its power cord and foot pedal. If it is an embroidery machine, add the embroidery foot and a hoop, and bring the manual if you still have it. A quick note about what the machine is doing, such as skipped stitches, unusual noise, or jamming, helps our technicians diagnose it faster.
What brands are you authorized to sell?
We are an authorized dealer for Baby Lock, PFAFF, Husqvarna VIKING, SINGER and Reliable, plus a full selection of sergers, embroidery machines, fabric, thread and notions. Shop online →
Do you offer classes for beginners?
Yes. We run beginner classes, owner and embroidery clubs, and skill-building sessions for every level, with most sessions just $20. You can see the full schedule and register on our class calendar →
